How Do Bead Filters For Ponds Work?

Water from the pond is passed through tightly packed clusters of plastic beads, which captures solids and simultaneously provides a vast surface area for cultures of bacteria to grow which remove dissolved nitrogenous wastes. Why Does My Pond Need a Biological Bead Filter?

It is important to realize that a pond filter is first and foremost required to purify the pond water. Fish produce waste as part of their natural metabolism and if the impurities are not removed, water pollutants can reach toxic levels. Under these conditions fish become stressed and in some cases may even die.
